The Carlyle

The Carlyle is one of Manhattan’s last bastions of old-world luxury, discreet (JFK and Marilyn Monroe frequently visited), secure (royals fill its guest registry), elegant (Bemelmans Bar remains a favorite among socialites and celebrities), with discreet yet secure guest service (JFK met Marilyn here), royal guest registrations filling its guest registry, and elegant bemelmans Bar frequently drawing socialites and celebrities). While its decor has undergone renovations over time, its original decorator Dorothy Draper introduced her Art Deco influence into its initial decorator Dorothy Draper design introduced Art Deco elements into its interiors when first introduced by Dorothy Draper herself in its opening years; its 35-story hotel resides on Manhattan’s Upper East Side within close proximity of Central Park as boutiques and galleries on Madison Avenue as well as being within proximity to its host museums of Metropolitan Museum of Art, Guggenheim and Frick.

Our rooms combine classic design, contemporary technology and traditional elegance in a harmonious combination. Spacious in design, each features king-sized beds outfitted with Carlyle monogrammed sheets and silk pillows; plush bathrobes/slippers/kiehl’s toiletries are provided as are a large flat screen TV/glass sideboard offering ample AC/USB power outlets.

As part of our three-year renovation stay at this hotel, we were fortunate enough to stay in one of the newly-upgraded Premier King rooms designed by master of hospitality design Tony Chi. His handiwork can be seen throughout 80% of rooms; and the results are stunning – an entryway adorned with a Central Park mural leads into a living area which is elegant yet comfortable; there is only one piece of artwork in the entire room; architecture speaks louder. Floor-to-ceiling panels command attention while tasteful geometric carpets standout as focal points in any of Tony Chi’s work – brilliantly.
