Renovating your home can be a really hard nut to crack. It is a very challenging and stressful task and sometimes it can take a lot of your time. However, we are ready to accept this little drawbacks, since we know that after a week or two we will be really satisfied with the final result. But as soon as the renovation is over and all the excitement calms down, we realize that this nightmare is far from over. Now we are supposed to find an efficient and fast way to cope with all the mess. Where to start from? How to deal with the dirtiest areas ? How to get rid of all the dust? If you have got into such an unpleasant situation, here are some useful tips on how to clean your house after renovation or construction.

 

Get your gear organised!

A very useful idea is to dedicate a certain corner or a whole room (if you have one available) which you can use to store all of your gear. Use some old boxes to keep them organised. If you don’t have enough space, use your closet or the garage.

Wipe down your walls

Household renovation can be a really dusty work. Many people do not realize, that simply vacuuming the room is not the best choice. That is why, you will have to wipe all of your walls down. If you are about to use professional cleaning detergents, be aware that they mustn’t be too strong. Otherwise you may damage the wallpapers (or the paint). On the other hand, they can be very harmful for you and your health. Try to think of some natural cleaning detergents and disinfectants, such as lemon and vinegar. If the room is not so dusty, even a bucket of hot water can do a great job.

 

Clean the windows

In order to clean the windows properly, you can prepare a home-made cleaning solution of water and vinegar (or freshly squeezed lemon juice). It is a very effective and eco-friendy cleaning solution and it is a great way to make you windows shiny again.

Vacuum

You floor is the most difficult surface to clean and that is why it has to be left ‘for desert’. When you get rid of the dust on your walls, it is time to turn on the vacuum cleaner. Of course, there is a risk to kick the dust back up again, but vacuuming is the most efficient way to remove some bigger pieces.

 

Mop

Use a mop, soaked in some detergent, in order to clean the floor thoroughly. It will wipe even the finest dust particles. Also, if you want to make sure that you have done a good job, leave the room for the night and check if there is any dust left in the morning. Repeat the whole procedure once again if necessary.

Get everything back on its place

When you finish with all the cleaning, it is time to start arranging all of your furniture and stuff. If you have planned to make some extra changes and refreshments – this is the right time. Also, before putting everything on its place, make sure that you have cleaned and disinfected all of your surfaces properly.
