The importance of having a kitchen that is just right for your requirements and also displays personality can never be underestimated. The kitchen is that part of the house that is reflective of the type of person you are and what you wish to convey about yourself to friends and family who frequent your establishment.
While designing the perfect kitchen for your house, you need to be mindful of certain planning aspects that can make all the difference between having a perfect kitchen that complements you and your house and one that really doesn’t say anything at all.
1) Space:
Size does matter when it concerns planning your kitchen. While you should not allocate too much space to a kitchen to reduce the space for other important areas such as living rooms, there should generally be enough space for all the necessary materials such as appliances, refrigerator, utensils and the like. Plan accordingly to accommodate a dishwasher, countertops and cabinets. Also think vertical and build cabinets as far as ergonomically reachable. Keep about 10 percent extra space margins for future expansion.
2) Cabinets and Drawers:
Cabinets are the pockets of a kitchen and like we all know, one never wants to run out of space to store. There should be enough cabinets to keep all your china, silverware and all those things that you do not need on a daily basis. Having transparent panes can make all the difference, particularly if you find it hard to remember where you placed something.
3) Under-Cabinet Lighting:
While other rooms within a house are fine with conventional lights on ceilings, a kitchen requires more lighting, particularly under the cabinet as they provide direct light on important areas of the kitchen such as on the countertop or right over the stove to help you see what you are actually doing. A kitchen, after all is meant to provide your family with a decent meal and you would be better able to take care of that if you can see what you are actually making!
4) Windows:
What most people seem to forget when they are designing their kitchen is the importance of good ventilation. While exhaust fans are generally built for this purpose to detoxify your house of the odor, some fresh air can never do any harm. Also, windows add to the beauty of your kitchen and you can take it up a notch by getting drapes that go with the theme of your kitchen.
5) Power Sources:
If there is one thing that you have to make sure when designing a kitchen, it is to have enough power sources in case of any changes or additions to your kitchen. There are too many instances of people realizing too late that they do not have enough power sources to add new appliances or when planning a change of setting and placing the appliance elsewhere.
6) Safety precautions:
Finally, you have to make sure that your kitchen is safe for the entire family and for guests by making curved countertops (without sharp edges), flooring with friction and access to fire at a height that is unreachable for toddlers and small children.
